Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 7, 2026 · Last updated: September 7, 2026
This Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes how the E Weather mobile application ("App", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the App. By downloading or using E Weather, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.
E Weather is a weather forecasting application for mobile devices. The App does not require an account and does not collect your name, phone number, or email address unless you choose to contact us.
1. Quick summary
- We use your location to show weather for where you are. You can decline and enter locations manually.
- Your saved locations and preferences are stored on your device; coordinates are sent to our server and to weather data providers to retrieve forecasts.
- We use analytics and crash reporting (Google Firebase) to improve stability and the user experience.
- On iOS, we display advertising (Google AdMob) and ask your permission before tracking you for advertising purposes.
- We do not sell your personal data.
2. Information we collect
2.1. Information you provide
- Searched and saved locations: the city/ward names or coordinates you enter or save in the App (up to 6 locations).
- Contact content: when you send a support email or feedback, we receive your email address and the content of your message.
2.2. Information collected automatically
- Location data: if you grant permission, the App accesses your device's precise or approximate location while the App is in use ("when in use"). Location is used to query weather forecasts and to power map-based features (route weather, nearby-area weather). We do not track your location in the background and do not store trip history.
- Usage and device data: via Google Firebase Analytics, we collect data about in-app events (screens viewed, features used), device type, operating system and version, language, approximate country/region, an app-instance identifier, and the advertising identifier provided by the operating system.
- Crash diagnostics: via Google Firebase Crashlytics, when the App crashes we receive a report containing device type, operating-system state, stack traces, and the time the crash occurred.
- Remote configuration: via Firebase Remote Config, your device downloads configuration parameters; this process may record an app-instance identifier and basic device attributes.
- Advertising data (iOS only): via Google AdMob, to serve ads and measure their performance. See Section 5.
2.3. Information we do not collect
We do not collect your contacts, photos, files, calendar, health data, payment information, or account credentials. The App has no sign-in functionality.
3. Purposes and legal bases for processing
| Purpose | Data types | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Provide weather forecasts for the location you choose | Location, saved locations | Performance of a contract; consent (for the location permission) |
| Operate, troubleshoot, and improve the App | Usage data, crash diagnostics | Legitimate interests; consent where required by law |
| Display advertising to keep the App free (iOS) | Advertising identifier, ad-interaction data | Consent |
| Respond to support requests | Email, contact content | Legitimate interests |
| Comply with legal obligations and protect rights | Relevant data | Legal obligation; legitimate interests |
4. How we share information
We do not sell personal data. We share information, to the minimum extent necessary, with the following service providers:
- Weather data providers: location coordinates are sent to third-party forecast services such as Open-Meteo, OpenWeatherMap, and WeatherAPI to retrieve weather data. These requests do not include personal identifiers.
- Geocoding services: place names and coordinates are sent to a service based on OpenStreetMap / Nominatim data to convert between place names and coordinates.
- E Weather server: the App connects to our intermediary server, which aggregates and normalizes data from multiple sources. The server keeps temporary technical logs (IP address, timestamp, endpoint called) for security and operational purposes.
- Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config) — analytics and app stability. See the Firebase privacy documentation.
- Google AdMob (iOS only) — ad serving. See how Google uses data.
- App distribution platforms (Apple App Store, and Google Play in the future) — handle downloads, updates, and aggregate statistics.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of our users and the public. In the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, data may be transferred to the successor entity subject to this Policy.
5. Advertising and tracking on iOS
The iOS version of E Weather displays ads through Google AdMob to keep the App free. Before allowing advertising partners to access a device identifier for cross-app tracking, we present Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt to ask for your permission.
- If you do not allow tracking, ads are still shown but are not personalized based on your behavior.
- You can change your choice at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking on your iOS device.
The App does not use advertising data for any purpose other than ad delivery and measurement.
6. Storage and retention
- On device: saved locations, units of measure, language, theme, and other preferences are stored locally and are removed when you uninstall the App.
- Server logs: retained for up to 30 days, unless a longer period is needed to investigate a security incident.
- Analytics and crash data: retained according to Firebase's default periods (typically 2 to 14 months for event data, and up to 90 days for crash reports), after which it is deleted or anonymized.
7. Security
Data transmitted between the App, our server, and service providers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International data transfers
Our service providers (including Google) may process data on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where we carry out such transfers, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Union's Standard Contractual Clauses.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights over your personal data:
- The right to access, correct, or delete your data;
- The right to restrict or object to processing;
- The right to withdraw consent you have given (without affecting prior processing);
- The right to receive your data in a structured, portable format;
- The right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection authority.
Because the App has no account, most data is under your direct control: you can revoke the location permission in your operating-system settings, disable analytics/advertising as described in Sections 5 and 10, or uninstall the App to delete local data. To exercise rights relating to server-side or analytics data, please contact us as described in Section 12. We respond within the period required by law (generally 30 days).
California residents: we do not sell and do not "share" (as defined by the CCPA/CPRA) personal information, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
Users in Vietnam: we process personal data in accordance with Decree No. 13/2023/ND-CP on personal data protection.
10. Your choices
- Location permission: can be turned on or off at any time in your operating-system settings. When off, you can still use the App by entering locations manually.
- Notifications: daily weather reminders are optional and can be disabled in the App or in your operating-system settings.
- Advertising identifier: you can reset it or limit ad tracking in your device's privacy settings.
11. Children's privacy
E Weather is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or under the minimum age required where you live). If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide notice in the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
